Maureen Lawrence joins Lucent Venture Partners

FOR RELEASE: MONDAY FEBRUARY 01, 1999

PALO ALTO, Calif -- Lucent Venture Partners, the venture capital subsidiary of Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) Inc., today announced that Maureen Lawrence has joined the group as a partner. Lawrence brings more than 27 years of entrepreneurial and general management experience in network management, data networking and wireless data systems to her role at the firm.

Based in the Menlo Park, Calif., office of Lucent Venture Partners, Lawrence will focus on investments in the data networking and management areas.

Prior to joining Lucent Venture Partners, Lawrence held several key management positions at data networking companies.

Most recently, she headed Aegis Consulting, a marketing and management consulting firm for high technology start-ups.

Before that, she was president and CEO of Whitetree, Inc., a venture funded start-up company that developed "adaptive switching" technology that was acquired by Ascend Communications in 1997. She has also held senior marketing and general management positions at Network Equipment Technology, Inc., Vitalink Communications Corporation, Chipcom, and Digital Equipment Corporation, and was also an "entrepreneur-in-residence" at Institutional Venture Partners.

"Maureen's strong technology, management and entrepreneurial background makes her a superb addition to our venture team," said John Hanley, managing general partner of Lucent Venture Partners. "Having started companies herself, she's walked in the same shoes as the management teams at our portfolio companies, which is a tremendous asset not only to us, but to the entrepreneurs as well."

"I'm thrilled to be joining the team at Lucent Venture Partners," said Lawrence. "The fund's focus on early-stage technology companies and commitment to swift decision-making were critical factors in my decision to join the group and I look forward to making significant contributions."
